ULtimate Fighting Championship 5 Superfight belt

ULtimate Fighting Championship 5 Superfight belt

Ultimate Fighting Champoinship 5 Superfight belt. UFC 5 was the first time the promotion had a Superfight. This was originally the concept so that Royce Gracie could fight Ken Shamrock without working through a tournament format. Royce beat Ken at UFC 1. Then the rematch was set for UFC 3 with Ken and Royce on opposite sides of the brackets in the tournament. UFC 3 was promoted as the rematch(also featured on the poster). Both sustained injuries at UFC 3 and both pulled out of the tournament. So UFC 5 was set to have the first ever Superfight for the rematch. Royce fought Ken to a draw and the Superfight belt was never awarded. There was also a tournament belt for Dan Severn who won the 8 man tournament that night. The bottom banner on his belt has the date ‘April 7 1995’ instead of the title ‘Superfight Champion’. Photo Cam Mackid
